Looks real nice! And though I don’t mean to sound ignorant, but from how you said the process is, isn’t it better to streamline that process first, or is that not an option?

@axelburns Hey man, glad you liked it! I’m replying in a separate post because the answer to your question is rather big though.

So is it possible to streamline the process? Well, technically, yes. It’s possible to make it shorter and cut down a few steps by drawing everything and then coding everything in one go. The only disadvantage with that is that you may like it as a static image (aka mockup) on photoshop, but then it might just not work in-game with everything moving and all the buttons and stuff like that…

That’s why I prefer to make small chunks by drawing each part of the hud at a time and slowly implementing everything.

Besides, since I don’t have much time to work on this project, doing it in small sections gives me a few extra points of motivation for having a small new panel working in-game everyday :)

  2. axelburns said: That’s great man. I’m no programmer so I’m not that familiar with that, but as an artist, I can definitely understand iterating on each piece before moving on. So it boils down to having it piece by piece be more beneficial to the game’s overall quality, and that accomplishing the project in steps is more enjoyable? I definitely feel that man. Hopefully your game works out well then. Cheers.
